Feinstein’s 2005
Spring Challenge to Fight Hunger Raises a Record $133
Million
For the eighth consecutive year, Rhode Island philanthropist Alan
Shawn Feinstein’s annual spring challenge to fight hunger has raised
millions of dollars for agencies nationwide feeding the needy.
Over one and a half million people
nationwide, including hundreds of schools, participated by
contributing to their local anti-hunger agencies last March and April
in response to the Feinstein Challenge, raising a total of $133
million—making it the most successful grass roots campaign to fight
hunger of all times! A list of the anti-hunger agencies and houses of
worship that benefited, as well as what they each raised from the
Feinstein campaign, can be viewed at
www.feinsteinfoundation.org/agencies.
Feinstein started his $1 million yearly spring challenge to fight
hunger in 1997. Since then, they have raised over $480 million for
agencies helping the hungry.
"Alan Shawn
Feinstein has shown what one man can do to advance the cause of
fighting hunger", said Robert Forney, President and CEO of America’s
Second Harvest, the nation’s largest domestic hunger-relief charity.
"His efforts are helping millions of people in need," says Dr. Robert
Carothers, President of the University of Rhode Island.
Feinstein is founder of the Center for a Hunger Free America at the
University of Rhode Island and the Feinstein International Famine
Center at Tufts University.
